Shell’s Metamorphosis

Installation view at Brutus, Rotterdam, NL

To get along with the video work “I Want to Be a Shell” which narrates the metamorphosis of the logo of Royal Dutch Shell company, this installation consists of a mobile sculpture made with shell-shaped merchandise. In a turning movement programmed to sync with the video, they float and sometimes strike each other but still balance their position within the sculpture. The shell’s shadow swings around and drops on the other shells juxtaposed on the mirror sheet that makes a unified reflection behind them. These details are highlighted by an ironic karaoke song from the video and remind us of the complex journey of the shell.
